Midgettes earn 10th Lakes win

SPENCER – With a tremendous display of offensive power, the Estherville Lincoln Central Midgettes dominated Spencer on Wednesday, 13-4.

The victory is the Midgettes’ 10th Lakes Conference victory of the season and marks the first time the team has notched back-to-back double-digit scores all year after defeating Cherokee 11-5 on Monday.

“It was a great job again by the girls offensively,” said ELC coach Megan Anderson. “It’s a real confidence boost and takes some pressure off of them. Hopefully we can finish the season strong.”

Brooke Egeland earned the victory for ELC. The senior allowed four runs (two earned) on four hits, struck out two and walked one batter.

Egeland was also 2-5 at the dish with three RBI.

Sadie Winter was 2-4 with two RBI, Emily Kirchner was 1-4 with an RBI, Morgan Schichtl was 3-4, Ashley Weston was 1-4 with two RBI, Allie Sievert was 2-4 with an RBI and Taylor Lago was 2-4.

ELC (15-9, 10-2) returns to action tonight as the Midgettes host Spirit Lake for “Sea of Red Night.” Be sure to wear red to the game and cheer on the team.

In JV action, ELC won 4-1.

Winning pitcher was Melissa Gjerde. She gave up four hits, struck out three and walked three batters on the night.

Shelby Lappegard was 3-3 at the plate with a run scored and two RBI.

Kristen King was 2-3 with an RBI and Allie Sievert was 1-3 with a run scored.
