ESTHERVILLE – The Estherville Lincoln Central softball team scored seven unanswered runs in the final three innings to top Spirit Lake on “Sea of Red” night in Estherville.

“We started out slow,”?said ELC coach Megan Anderson. “Once we started hitting it was contagious. I’m proud of how the girls battled tonight.”

After battling to a 0-0 tie through three innings, Spirit Lake got on the board first as Paige Krause scored on an Amanda Bueltel single despite appearing to be tagged out before crossing home plate by ELC catcher Morgan Schichtl.

Bueltel eventuall scored in the inning to give the Indians a 2-0 lead.

After being blanked in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Midgettes stormed back in the fifth as Ashley Weston and Taylor Lago each scored on a Brooke Egeland bloop single into left field to tie the game at 2-2.

An RBI double by Emily Kirchner scored Egeland and Macy Dahl later scored on a passed ball to give ELC a 4-2 lead.

ELC stretched its lead to 7-2 in the sixth inning thanks to doubles by Allie Sievert and Egeland and the Midgettes cruised the rest of the way to victory.

For ELC, Egeland was 2-4 on the night with four RBI and one run scored.

She also earned the win on the mound for the Midgettes.

“Brooke’s really gutting it out right now,” said Anderson. “I know she’s tired but she keeps fighting for us.”

Schichtl and Weston were each 2-3 while Kendall Bosch and Sievert were each 1-3.

Sadie Winter and Kirchner were each 1-4 on the night.

For Spirit Lake, Bueltel was 2-3 on the night with an RBI.

Kendra Stokke was 1-3 with an RBI while Caila Joens was 1-4 and Cara Vale was 1-3.
