ELC Midgets rout E’Hawks
EMMETSBURG – The Estherville Lincoln Central Midgets jumped out to an early lead in Tuesday’s Lakes Conference meeting with Emmetsburg and never looked back, taking an 11-1 road victory.
Starting pitcher Marcus Christensen was brilliant on the mound, allowing just one hit as the junior flame thrower went the distance for ELC to earn the victory.
“Marcus just pitched a whale of a game,”?said ELC coach Lee Evans. “Joe Clayton was actually supposed to go for us, but his hip wasn’t feeling very good, so we asked Marcus and he said he wanted the ball.”
Christensen struck out eight in the contest and walked just two batters.
ELC got off to the early lead as a lead off single by Alex Arends put the Midgets in business.
After Christensen reached on an E’Hawk error and Jeremy Hunt was walked, Gable Bonner and Justin Doyle recorded a pair of doubles to put ELC up 3-1 after the first inning.
ELC stretched its lead to 6-1 in the second inning before a two-run homer by Christensen in the fourth put the game completely out of reach.
Christensen and Bonner were each 2-4 on the night while Doyle was 2-3.
Tyler Lutz was 1-2, Alex Arends was 1-1 and Cody Prather was 1-4 on the night.
ELC will return to action as the Midgets travel to Forest City tonight.
