Knights defeat CC-E Mavericks

TERRIL – The Graettinger-Terril softball team ended the 2010 regular season on a winning note with an 8-3 victory over Clay Central-Everly on Tuesday.

The game started on Monday, but was postponed due to a thunderstorm.

The Knights pounded out eight hits with five coming from their seniors. Tasha Neilson was 2-3 with two doubles and four RBIs. Dakota Hovinga also was 2-3 with an RBI while Amanda Oleson and Nikki Brown each went 1-3. Also Maddy Schany and Brooke Hoffman were 1-3.

“The girls hit a lot of line drives,” said G-T coach Stephanie Hanson. “It was the seniors last home game and they played really well.”

Alyssa Hoffman earned the win on the mound. She gave up three runs (one earned) on five hits with four strikeouts and three walks.

The Knights end the season at 13-12 overall and 8-3 in the Cornbelt Conference.

G-T starts postseason against Harris-Lake Park today with a 7 p.m. game at Lake Park. The Knights defeated the Wolves in two regular season meetings, winning by the 10-run rule in the first game and by six runs the second time around.
