Midgets fall to Indians
FOREST CITY – The Estherville Lincoln Central baseball team fell to Forest City on Wednesday, 11-1, in the final game of the regular season.
The Midgets got on top first as a Jeremy Hunt RBI double put ELC up 1-0 in the top half of the opening inning.
Unfortunately the Indians tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the inning and after blanking ELC in the top of the second, put up five runs on three hits, four walks and an error to jump out to a 6-1 lead that they would never relinquish.
“That second inning just put us down early and it stayed that way,”?said ELC coach Lee Evans. “We just didn’t play our best game. It didn’t seem like the guys had much of a sense of urgency there at the start and Forest City took advantage.”
Cody Prather took the loss on the hill for ELC.
Jake Lange was 2-3 at the plate to lead the Midgets.
Hunt was 1-2 with a double and an RBI.
Perhaps the lack of urgency was due to the upcoming Regional Tournament match-up with Lakes Conference foe Spirit Lake on Saturday, whom the Midgets beat 16-2 earlier this season.
“I think that has something to do with it,” said Evans. “There are a lot of seniors on this team and they know they’re better than what their record says this year. Saturday is kind of a new start for us and I know the guys are going to be ready to go. They’re a resilient group and they’re hungry. Hopefully we can show that this weekend.”
