Knights advance, down CC-E
LAKE PARK – The Graettinger-Terril Knights’ bats came alive with 11 hits in a 9-4 victory over Clay Central-Everly on Friday.
“The girls hit a lot of line drives right at the defense, but found the holes when they needed to,” said G-T coach Stephanie Hanson.
The Knights advance to play Alta at 7 p.m., Monday at Spencer. Alta defeated West Bend-Mallard 2-1 in eight innings Friday.
The Knights led from start to finish against the Mavericks after a four-run first inning that began with consecutive singles from Amanda Oleson and Brooke Hoffman. The first run scored on a one-out single by Maddy Schany with another run scoring when Morgan Matthews reached on an error. Nikki Brown’s single drove in two runs.
CC-E came back with three runs in the second inning, but the Knights had a five-run fourth inning.
Hoffman and Tasha Neilson both singled to start the inning with a double by Schany scoring two runs. Brown came up with an RBI double followed by an RBI single from Lindsay Flaharty. The fourth run of the inning scored when Hailley Nelson reached on an error. Nelson stole two bases and scored on a sacrifice fly by Dakota Hovinga.
Brown was 2-2 with two RBIs and a walk,. Schany was 3-4 with two doubles and two RBIs and Hoffman was 3-4 with an RBI. Flaharty was 1-3 while Neilson and Oleson each went 1-4.
Alyssa Hoffman earned the victory. She gave up four runs (two earned) on nine hits with four strikeouts and three walks.
“Alyssa was throwing real hard tonight,” said Hanson.
