Coaches Dan Hewitt and Royce Van Roekel hosted the end-of-season banquet for the 2010-11 Estherville Lincoln Central wrestling team Monday evening.

The special moment of the evening came as the team’s seniors, Seth Shatto, Riley Edwards, Kyle Tribby and Cyrill Hellwig, honored Collin Helmers, a classmate who died in 2005.

The seniors presented an honorary wrestler letter to Collin’s parents, Randy and Carla.

The coaches handed out the participation letters and participation certifications.

Team captains this season were senior Seth Shatto and junior Gable Bonner.

Riley Edwards received the Most Improved Wrestler Award.

Shatto received the Most Valuable Wrestler Award after his 30-win season.

The Captains’ Ironmen Award went to Cole Mace.

Coach Van Roekel explained the award as one that didn’t necessarily go to the most talented wrestler, but to the one who gave 100 percent and pushed his teammates to become better.

The coaches also recognized the team’s two state qualifiers, Bonner and Oscar Ramirez

The wrestling cheerleaders also were honored with letters. The cheerleaders in turn presented a ‘pin’ to varsity wrestlers for each of their pins during the past season.
