CLERMONT, Fla. – The Iowa Lakes softball team finished up its swing through Clermont, Fla., on Friday with two victories as they defeated Thiel, Penn., 10-2, behind a five-hit pitching performance by Taylor Mackey.

Offensively Jayde Cherkas, Carla Carrillo and Wendy Coffin all went 2-3 at the plate. In the second game of the day the Lakers offense broke through with two outs in the third inning to plate runs by Michelle Thille, Katie Larson and Hayley Condon. The Lakers added two runs in the fifth with RBIs by Condon and Priciilla Quintana. The final two runs came in the sixth by Coffin and Cherkas as Kaite Larson blasted a two-out double to left center field. Larson was 2-2, Rubek was 2-3, and both Condon and Quintana went 2-4. Mackey is now 6-1 on the season in the pitching circle. The Lakes are now 7-3 overall heading home from an 11-day Florida road trip to kick off the season.

The Lakes open conference play on March 24 at Ellsworth CC.

“It was great to get outside and play some great competition,” said coach Shane Bouman. “This trip has prepared us for the conference season as we feel very excited about the opportunity to see how we stack up against the other teams in Region XI.”
