Lakers win three of four to start season

VERO BEACH, Fla. – The Iowa Lakes continued play on its spring break trip Monday.

In game one, the Lakers suffered their first lost, 10-4, to Westchester. Christopher Rivera took the loss on the mound for the Lakers, who held a 2-1 lead heading into the top of the fifth inning when Westchester scored five runs.

Offensively, the Lakers managed just three hits. Anthony Stewart was 1-3 with two RBI and Jaryd Marks was 1-3.

Iowa Lakes bounced back with a 2-1 victory over the Canadian Baseball Academy.

Angel Samot pitched all seven innings, giving up just two hits and striking out seven.

At the plate, Luis Reyes led Iowa Lakes, going 2-3. Luis Rodriguez was 1-2 with an RBI and Jose Hernandez was 1-2.

Sunday’s games

The Iowa Lakes baseball team opened the season with two victories against the Ontario Blue Jays.

Iowa Lakes took game one 9-4. Bryan Lopez earned the victory. In five innings of work, he struck out four and gave up four runs.

Offensively, the Lakers’ Luis Reyes was 2-4 with a double and Jaryd Marks was 1-2 with an RBI. Brett Muron had a hold and Joel Cooke pitched one inning.

Iowa Lakes’ Pedro Castro shut out the Blue James in game two, 6-0. Castro went the distance, striking out seven of the 23 batters while giving up just one hit.

At the plate, Marks was 1-1 with a double and two RBI. Anthony Stewart was 2-3 and Homar Gonzales and Danny Cruse each went 1-2.
