Two men and three women basketball student-athletes from Iowa Lakes Community College have received All-Region honors.

Charles McNeal III was named to the First Team All-Region by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference. McNeal, a sophomore from Milwaukee, Wis., averaged 14.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game this season. He also had 11 double-doubles for the 17-14 Lakers.

Head Men’s Basketball Coach Troy Larson commented on McNeal’s hard work and talent.

“I am very proud of Charles receiving first team all region. He has worked extremely hard in his two years at Iowa Lakes and has improved as much as any player I have coached,” Larson said. “He was very consistent throughout the season and will be a very good player at the four-year level. We will miss him being in our program next year.”

Mike Weems was selected to the Honorable Mention team for his 7.5 points and 3 rebounds per game performance. The sophomore from Milwaukee, Wis., also shot 45% from the 3 point line.

“Mike was very coachable and made some big shots for us in conference play. He was one of our leaders both on and off the floor,” said Larson.

The Laker women had three student-athletes selected to the All-Region team. Iesha Barkley was selected first team All-Region with Miley Hunziker selected as second team, and Emma Kate Gibson as third team.

Barkley, a freshman from Milwaukee, Wis., averaged 15 points and three rebounds while dishing out 4 assists per game this season. Hunziker, a sophomore from Milford, contributed an average of 12 points and 7 rebounds per game. Emma Kate Gibson, a freshman from Australia, contributed an average of 9 points while pulling down three rebounds per game.

The Laker women finished up the season with a 14-17 campaign under Coach Brian Radtke, who commented on the strengths of the women named All-Region players.

“These three did a tremendous job for us this year,” commented Radtke. “They were very deserving of being named All-Region.”
