SLP 4×800 sets record at Lakes Indoor
STORM LAKE – The Spirit Lake Park Boys Track Team is off to a strong start.
The Indians had four first-place relays at the Lakes Conference Indoor Meet and had the top three runners in the 1600-meter run.
The Indians set the conference and SLP indoor record in the 4×800-meter relay with a time of 8 minutes, 12.55 seconds. That broke the record of 8:31.47 by SLP’s 2008 4×800 state champion relay of Joe Nellis, Brandon Griffin, Tyler Gustafson and Dan Pearson.
Coach Brad Travis said his quartet’s time is the second fastest time currently run in the state for all classes.
Other first-place relays include the shuttle hurdle relay team of DJ Smith, Kevin Martinson, Cody Poock and Aric Waltz finished in 36.42.
The 4×200-meter relay team of Martinson, Luke Kabele, Waltz and Mychal Sheridan clocked a time of 1:36.35.
The 4×400-meter relay team of Martinson, Kayne Feldick, Kabele and Watlz finished in 3:36.04.
In the 1600-meter run, Alec Baldwin took first in 4 minutes, 50.80 seconds followed closely by Byers in 4:55.36 and Norris in 4:55.41.
In the long jump, Casey Spaeth placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 9 inches. Kabele placed fifth in the 55-meter dash in 6.80 seconds. Tanner Kroon placed seventh in the shot put with a throw of 40 feet, 6 1/4 inches. Smith placed eighth in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 1 inch.
