Eustice resigns from Laker wrestling

By Staff | Mar 31, 2011

The wrestling coach at Iowa Lakes will hand over the reins of the wrestling program at Iowa Lakes to someone else at the end of the college year.

Ty Eustice officially notified the college Monday. Eustice along with Athletic Director Troy Larson held a meeting with students Tuesday afternoon to inform them of the decision.

Leaving Iowa Lakes wasn’t an easy decision for Eustice.

“I will forever be thankful for the opportunity to coach here,” Eustice said. “It has been a tremendous experience. I know that I’ve put all my effort into the job and feel this program is at a great place.”

During Coach Eustice’s tenure, Victor DeJesus became a two-time national champion at 149. In addition, the team finished seventh in 2010 and tied for 10th in 2011. And, there have been six All-Americans and two Academic All-Americans.

“I am leaving for personal family reasons, but I know I am leaving on great terms with the people here at Iowa Lakes, and I have gained friendships that will last a lifetime,” Eustice added.

Coach Eustice will be missed.

“I want to thank Ty for all his hard work, effort and dedication to our wrestling student-athletes over the past two years,” said Larson. “The wrestlers are better for having been in the program under Ty’s outstanding leadership.”

Coach Eustice expressed appreciation for his co-workers.

“I specifically want to thank assistants Corey VanGroll and Nick Nothern for their time and effort. Both have shown great character and work ethic,” Eustice said. “I’d like to thank Troy Larson and Julie Williams for their belief in me and their support of the wrestling program. Their leadership is second to none and I am sure that they will keep the wrestling and athletic programs moving in the right direction.”

And, he said it was a pleasure to work with the student-athletes.

“I want to let the athletes that I’ve coached here know how much they’ve meant to me personally, and thank them for the commitment to the program,” Eustice said.

Eustice also served as Housing Coordinator and organized Intramurals for the Estherville campus of Iowa Lakes. Through wrestling, housing and intramurals, Eustice mentored numerous students during his two years at the college.

“I personally want to wish him well in his future endeavors,” said Larson.

At this time, Eustice will leave at the end of the college year. A search for Coach Eustice’s replacement will begin immediately.
