The Iowa Lakes Softball Team was scheduled to play its home opener against North Iowa Area Community College Thursday at the field in Estherville.

While Mother Nature postponed the game until another day, pitcher Taylor Mackey and catcher Carla Carillo got in some work before the rains came.

The Lakers are off to another great start with a 10-4 record and are currently in first place in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference. They defeated No. 22 ranked Kirkwood CC 6-4 Sunday in Cedar Rapids.

Offensively Jayde Cherkas, Julia Rubek, Pricilla Quintana and Kirsten Heimerl are all hitting over .400 on the season while Taylor Mackey has carried most of the pitching duties and has a record of 9-2 in the circle.

“We have an exciting young team who prides ourselves on an aggressive style of softball built on speed, pitching and defense. Our attitude, and keeping things simple such as, catch the ball, throw the ball and get a timely hit are the emphasis of this part of the season.” said Coach Shane Bouman.

Iowa Lakes softball is also hosting a Softball Clinic before the home double header April 9 vs. Century College. Be sure to check out the college website or contact coach Bouman about the Softball Clinic
