Laker softball splits with Tigers
The Iowa Lakes softball team traveled to Marshalltown CC on a conference DH road trip Tuesday.
In game one, the Lakers got off the bus with their bats in hand as Katie Larson went 3-3 with a home run and a double. Also, Priscilla Quintana and Julia Rubek went 2-3 with two doubles each to give the Lakers the 10-2 victory. Taylor Mackey was the winning pitcher. She struck out three batters and walked one while giving up three hits.
In game two Kristen Heimerl led off the sixth inning with a solo home run to give the Lakers the lead. But they couldn’t hold on as they fell 5-4. Offensively Katie Larson went 2-3. Mackey was the losing pitcher to give her an overall record of 10-3 in the circle. She struck out two batters, walked three and gave up six hits.
“Our pitching and defense were very average today and it caught up to us in game two,” said assistant coach Scott Miller. “There is only one way to get better-practice.”
