Lakers post 1-3 mark vs. NIACC
MASON CITY – The Iowa Lakes Baseball Team posted a 1-3 record against North Iowa Area Community College this past weekend.
The Lakers opened the series with a 6-4 loss to the Trojans on Friday.
Pedro Castro took the loss after giving up six runs on eight hits in 2 1/3 innings of work.
The Lakers rallied with a three-run fourth inning, but plated just one more run after that.
Bryan Lopez closed out the game giving up two hits in 3 2/3 innings while striking out five.
At the plate, Luis Rius was 1-3 with two RBI.
In game two, Iowa Lakes jumped out to a 6-3 lead when NIACC erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Trojans went on to win 11-8 with all 11 runs earned.
Three Laker pitchers combined to give up 11 runs and nine walks with only two strikeouts. Gunner Johnson took the loss on the mound.
Iowa Lakes came up with nine hits led by Anthony Stewart, who was 2-4 with two RBI.
On Saturday, Iowa Lakes regrouped behind starter Angel Samot in a 3-0 win. Samot pitched six innings and gave up three hits and eight walks while striking out six. Melvin Abreu shut the door in the seventh, facing three batters and striking out one.
At the plate, Terry Benne went 2-3 with an RBI.
In the final game of the series, NICC pounded out 15 hits in a 9-5 victory. Three Laker pitchers took the mound starting with Keith Fandel. He gave up 11 hits while striking out three batters and walking two in the loss.
Offensively, Kyle Smith was 2-3 with two RBI.
Iowa Lakes (11-9, 2-6) hosts Minnesota West in a doubleheader today. First game starts at 2 p.m. at Hess-Limberg Field.
