Indians run well at Cherokee

CHEROKEE – The Spirit Lake Park Boys Track Team won the 2011 Tomahawk Relays on Thursday.

The Indians came away with six first place finishes.

Coach Brad Travis said the medley relay’s time of 3 minutes 34.51 seconds should qualify the foursome of Luke Kabele, Aric Waltz, Kayne Feldick and Alec Baldwin for the Drake Relays.

“The individual time should back me up in confirming we broke the school record, meet record and are currently No. 1 in all classes,” said SLP coach Brad Travis of the relay time.

SLP’s other relay to place first was the 4×400-meter team of Kevin Martinson, Kabele, Waltz and Feldick in 3:30.67.

Individually, Baldwin won the 400-meter dash in 59.92 seconds while Will Norris won the 3200-meter run in 9:58.88 and Kevin Martinson won the 400-meter hurdles in 58.12 seconds.

SLP went 1-2 in the 800-meter run where Keith Byers won in 2:01.11 and Paul Woizeschke placed second in 2:08.

Also second was the 4×200-meter relay team in 1:34.18.

Norris placed third in the 1600-meter run in 4:44.23 while Dalton Kelley was third in the discus with a throw of 145 feet, 8 inches. Also third was the shuttle hurdle relay team in 1:04.72. Kyle Anderson had the lone forth-place finish, completing the 3200-meter run in 10:59.27

Placing fifth were Byers in the 400-meter dash in 53.65 seconds, Pat Woizeschke in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:09.34 and Mike Sheridan in the 200-meter dash in 24.37 seconds. DJ Smith placed sixth in the 110-meter hurdles in 17.51 and the 4×800 team placed sixth in 9:16.23.

Kelley placed seventh in the shot put with a throw of 40 feet, 3 inches and Tanner Kroon was eighth with a toss of 39 feet, 10 1/2 inches. Also eight was the 4×100-meter relay team.

Bishop Heelan finished second in the team standings with 110 points followed by Sioux City West with 106, LeMars with 93, MOC-Floyd Valley with 81, Storm Lake with 71, Sioux City North with 65 and Spencer with 50.
