Iowa Lakes takes two from Panthers

The Iowa Lakes Baseball Team swept Ellsworth in the first day of competition against the Panthers on Friday.

In game one, Ellsworth took its only lead of the day with a run in the first inning. The Lakers scored the next four, two in the first and two in the third, to win 4-1.

At the plate, Luis Rodriguez and Terry Benne each went 2-3 with two RBI. Anthony Stewart also was 2-3.

Angel Samot earned his fourth win of the season. He gave up two hits and a walk while striking out 10 batters.

In game two, the Lakers jumped out to a 4-1 lead again. This time, the host team erupted for six runs in the fifth inning after hitting six straight singles. The deluge also included a sacrifice fly and another run scoring on a called third strike that got past the catcher.

Gunner Johnson pitched five innings in the win. He struck out eight batters and gave up three hits.

Sixto Suarez pitched one inning of relief and struck out one batter. Aaron Jensen closed out the game. He gave up one hit and a walk.

Iowa Lakes and Ellsworth play another doubleheader today starting at 1 p.m. at Hess Limberg Field.
