JCC edges Spirit Lake golfers in opener

SPIRIT LAKE – For the first meet of the year, two golf teams can’t play much closer than a stroke.

That’s what happened Friday as Jackson County Central edged Spirit Lake 173 to 174.

Spirit Lake’s top returning golfer Matt Weeks led the way with a 35. JCC runnerupmedalist Tanner Asa was seven strokes behind with a 42. Rounding out the Spirit Lake scores were Scott Hummel with a 45, Corey Potter with a 46 and Trevor Caldwell with a 48.

Non-counting scores were a 49 from Matt Heaton and a 50 by Zach Herrig.
