The Estherville Lincoln Central Girls Golf Team had a decent first outing, but lost to Algona 212 to 229 on Monday.

“Early in the season it takes 3-4 meets to know just how the team is going to do and where girls are going to play,” said ELC coach Kevin Richardson. “Half of the JV and varsity girls had never played in a golf meet – so looking at it that way we did okay.

“Paige Hoffmeyer had her best varsity score with a 53 – this is a great round for her. Taylor Lago shot a 60 which for her first golf meet ever was a good score. A couple of the other varsity girls stumbled on a few holes which happens early – one or two bad holes can really mess up your score.”

Algona swept medalist and runner-up medalist honors as Heather Zeisman carded a 49 and Annalise Manske shot a 51.

Paige Hoffmeyer led ELC with a 53 while Taylor Heinrichs shot a 54. Other counting scores were a 60 from Taylor Lago and a 62 by Aryn Ward.

Non-counting scores were a 65 from Raeanna Muller and a 72 by Andrea Lunning.

In junior varsity play, Algona won 229 to 284.

Rachel Lausen led ELC with a 56 while Tia Bernholtz shot a 72, Kayla Evans a 74 and Lauren Moeller an 82. Non-counting scores were an 85 by Savanna Johnson and a 91 from Cattie Twedt.

“Rachel Lausen had a nice round and freshmen Kayla Evans and Tia Bernholtz had solid scores for their first meets,” said Richardson.
