Lakers complete season sweep of Panthers

The Iowa Lakes Baseball Team completed a four-game sweep over Ellsworth by winning a pair of one-run games on Saturday.

The Lakers began the day with a 3-2 victory. Bryan Lopez pitched six innings to earn the win. He gave up five hits, two earned runs and a walk while striking out six batters.

Melvin Abreu shut the door in the seventh inning, striking out the side to earn the save.

At the plate, Hector Gonzales went 2-3 while Moises Marrero, Terry Benne and Jose Stelluti Chang went 1-3.

In game two, ELC alum Keith Fandel took the mound for five innings, giving up three runs (one earned) while striking out six batters and walking three. But his team trailed 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth.

However, a two-RBI run by Jaryd Marks helped the Lakers score three runs, all with two outs in the fifth.

The Lakers put three other pitchers on the mound, but Abreu was the one earning the win in two-thirds of an inning of work. He had one strikeout.

The Lakers plated the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Iowa Lakes improves to 17-9 overall and 6-6 in league play. The Lakers are on the road against Anoka-Ramsen Community College today.
