Midgets fall to Algona
ALGONA – The Estherville Lincoln Central Boys Golf Team opened the season with a 178 to 193 loss to Algona on Monday.
“We had 5 boys playing in their first high school golf meet tonight and with very little time outside and windy conditions, scores were higher than we would have liked,” said ELC coach Jeff Soper. “Algona Country Club is a very hill course with trouble all over and the wind helped lead the boys to trouble. Everyone was disappointed with their scores, but excited to finally be able to get outside and play on a course that was mowed up.”
Algona swept medalist and runner-up medalist honors as Chris Grether shot a 41 and Blair Bradley had a44.
Max Brashear led ELC with a 46 while Adam Reiter and Justin Harris each shot 48s and Matt Burrell had a 51.
Non-counting scores were a 52 from Tucker Milburn and a 55 by Clay Tredway.
The ELC junior varsity won its first meet, defeating Algona 211 to 215.
Corey Reeves led ELC with a 48 while Chris Seylar shot a 51, Hunter Gifford a 53 and Levi Quastad a 59.
Non-counting scores were a 60 by Kyle Thompson and a 62 from Derek Neiland.
ELC is back on the links tonight as the team travels to Spencer in a triangular meet which includes Cherokee.
