SLO netters blow past Tornadoes, 8-1
The Spirit Lake-Okoboji Girls Tennis team didn’t have much trouble against Storm Lake, defeating the Tornados 8-1 on Friday..
Storm Lake has five seniors in its lineup which lends to experience, but only picked up a win at the No. 6 singles as Holly Seeman lost 10-5 to Alyssa Sievers.
“This really showed at the bottom of their line-up. I think as Holly Seeman gets more experienced she’ll make adjustments during the match and will fair better,” said SLO coach Bob O’Hara.
SLO’s top two players didn’t give up a game as Aubry Kolegraff won 10-0 over Samantha Kavan and Alli Gerking blanked Amanda Kavan 10-0.
In other singles play, K.J. Veldman won 10-2 over Iwa Chanthavong, Hannah Coenen won 10-4 over Pamila Vongdeliane and Rachael Westergard won 10-2 over Cassy Hill.
The Indians swept the doubles matches. Gerking and Kolegraff won 10-0 over Samantha and Amanda Kavan; Kohlhaase and Veldman won 1-2 over Chanthavong and Vongdeliane and Coenen and Westergard won 10-2 over Hill and Sievers.
“Our doubles looks good, but we need to have quicker rackets up at the net,” said O’Hara. “All in all we’re off to a good start this season.”
SLO was at home against LeMars on Monday. The team hosts Cherokee on Thursday.
