SPIRIT LAKE – While LeMars gave the Spirit Lake-Okoboji Girls Tennis Team its toughest challenge so far this season, the Bulldogs were unable to pull out a couple of the close matches. SLO completed the 9-0 sweep.

“I was really happy with our mental toughness tonight,” said SLO coach Bob O’Hara. “I think our experience really helped us win the close matches. Our No. 1 doubles team, despite not playing their best, still showed good composure at the end of the match, which proved to be the difference.”

Both SLO’s top two players face challenges in their singles matches.

Aubry Kolegraff prevailed in a 10-7 match against Carolyn Ahlers while Alli Gerking won 10-5 over Erica Westhoff.

In other singles play, K.J. Veldman won 10-3 over Stephanie Young, Hannah Coenen won 10-1 over Catie Meis, Rachael Westergard won 10-1 over Anne Meis and Holly Seeman won 10-0 over Hannah Lang.

In doubles play, Gerking and Kolegraff held off Ahlers and Westhoff 10-8; Kohlhaase and Veldman won 10-4 over Young and Catie Meis; and Coenen and Westergard won 10-1 over Anne Meis and Lang.

SLO is home against Cherokee on Thursday.
