Indians finish second at home invitational
The Spirit Lake Park Girls Track Team had a good run at their home co-ed meet on Tuesday, taking second place overall.
Spencer won with 157 points followed by SLP with 144, Estherville Lincoln Central with 103, North Sentral Kossuth/Armstrong-Ringsted with 70, Okoboji with 44, Clay Central-Everly with 27, South O’Brien with 22 and Forest Ridge with 20.
The Indians earned plenty of points in the field events as Molly Hutchiins and Emily Mercer went 1-2 in both the shot put and discus. Hutchins threw the shot put 35 feet, 10 inches while Mercer’s throw was 33 feet, 10 1/2 inches. Hutchins threw the discus 105 feet, 1 inch and Mercer threw 92 feet, 8 inches.
In the high jump, Kendra Stokke placed second with a leap of 4 feet, 8 inches while Bailey Loveall was sixth at 4 feet, 6 inches. Jessie Kabele was fourth in the long jump at 14 feet, 9 inches while Miranda Bruggeman was sixth at 14 feet, 6 inches.
Stokke had the only other first-place finish as she won the 400-meter hurdles in 71.32 seconds.
SLP went 2-3 in the 3000 with Dondi Schmidt finishing in 1:52.32 and Briana Brunsvold in 11:54.71. Brunsvold also finished second in the 1500-meter run in 5:41.60 while Bailey Heikens was third in 5:53.35.
Three relays placed second. The4x800-meter relay team of Heikens, Kabele, Liz Skogerboe and Morgan Walz finished in 11:20.74. The shuttle hurdle relay team of Stokee, Bruggeman, Kayla Herrig and Kaela Delperdang finished in 74.16 seconds. The distance medley team of Carter Hassel, Caitlin Eckerman, Katie Hamilton and Brunsvold finished in 4:54.69.
In the 800-meter run, Schmidt finished third in 2:40.86 while Kabele was fourth in 2:4.94. Loveall placed fourth in the 400-meter dash in 66.07 seconds. The 4×200-meter relay team of Hassel, Lindsey Arenson, Herrig and Bruggeman cplaced fourth in 1:57.62. The sprint medley relay team of Hassel, Arneson, Bruggeman and Loveall finished in 2:08.63. The 4×400-meter relay team of Schmidt, Herrig, Loveall and Hamilton placed fourthin 4:49.91.
Arneson placed fifth in the 100-meter dash in 14.20 seconds. The 4×100-meter relay team of Hassel, Eckerman, Corri VanderWoude and Kayla Herrig finished fifth in 56.87 seconds. Stokke placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.48 seconds.
