Iowa Lakes combined aggressive baserunning, key hitting and a solid pitching performance from Taylor Mackey helped defeat No. 12 Iowa Central 6-2 on a windy day in Estherville on Wednesday.

Kelsey Ennenga was 2-3 at the plate with a double.

In game one the Tritons forced five Laker errors as they took the first of the doubleheader by a score of 6-1.

Carla Carrillo homered in the third inning and was the lone bright spot for the Lakers.

The split Wednesday puts the Iowa Lakes softball team alone in third place halfway through the conference season.

“We bounced back very well in game two as our aggressive baserunning and ability to compete at the plate put pressure on team,” said Laker coach Shane Bouman. “Solid pitching and defense must be constant everyday if winning is important to this team.”

The Lakers (15-7 overall) continue the eight-game home stand Saturday at 1 p.m. with “Strikeout Cancer” vs. Southwestern and again Sunday at noon vs. Marshalltown.
