ELC beats the rain, Cherokee

The Estherville Lincoln Central Girls Tennis Team beat the rain and Cherokee in earning a 6-2 win over the Braves on Monday.

“We played nice for the night,” said ELC coach Larry Kirchner.

ELC won four of the singles matches.

At the No. 1 spot, Erin Olson won 10-3 over Sarah Reuhle; Corin Swalve won 10-7 over Amber Haupert at the No. 2 spot. At the No. 5 singles, Bailey Hagen won 10-6 over Taylor Meyerhofer and Tessa Bernholtz defeated Shelby Bingham 10-4.

In other singles, Allison Hevern lost 10-3 to Denise freed and Amanda Heinrichs lost 10-2 to Anna Lehrach.

In doubles, Olson and Swalve won 10-3 over Reuhle and Meyerhofer and Heinrichs and Bernholtz won 10-6 over Freed and Bingham.

Hevern and Hagen led 4-1 in their match when the rain came.

The ELC junior varsity only got in four singles matches and won three.

Kaylee Schoon won 8-6, Kelly Zebedee won 8-4, Emily Chrestiansen won 8-6 and Maddy Bernholtz lost 8-6.

Schoon and Zebedee also were ahead 2-0 in their doubles match when the rain arrived.

ELC travels to Spirit Lake on Monday.
