Braves too much for Midgets
CHEROKEE – While Estherville Lincoln Central and Cherokee came up short in completing all their matches in Monday’s meet, the two teams played enough for the Braves to win 6-0 as the hosts swept the singles matches.
“We played a little better, but we can still compete harder,” said ELC coach Tony Klein. “We got off to slow starts in our singles matches, but did a better job in doubles before the rain came.”
In singles play, Brad Olsen lost 10-0 to Alex Struck, Riley Edwards lost 10-0 to Matthew Enderlin, Tim Soper lost 10-0 to Brett Walker, John Reisner lost 10-7 to Gabe Conley, tucker Olson lost 10-7 to Gus Laursen and Joe Heinrichs lost 10-7 to Nathan Fowler.
In doubles play, Olson and Edwards led 1-0 over Struck and Enderlin, Olsen and Reisner trailed 5-0 to Walker and Conley and Heinrichs and Soper led 1-0 over Laursen and Fowler.
In junior varsity play, only two matches were completed. Taylor Fernholtz lost 8-1 and Levi Johnson led 8-1. Thomas Bortivit led Carlos Aguilar 5-1 in his match.
ELC is home with Spirit Lake-Okoboji on Monday.
