SPIRIT LAKE – The Spirit Lake-Okoboji Boys Tennis Team lost a close match to Spencer, 5-3, in Lakes Conference play on Monday.

SL-O lost the first three singles matches by identical scores of 10-7.

“It was obviously an extremely tight meet,” said SLO coach Dan Taylor. “I didn’t think our guys at the top of the singles lineup played all that well today, and they still almost pulled out their matches.”

Brandon Stoll lost to Michael Gabhart, Wes Bergquist lost to Morgan Kramer and Brett Kraus lost to Eric Maassen.

SLO came back to win the next three matches with Tyler Bice winning 11-9 over Jordan Plueger, Jordan Richey winning 10-6 over Bryan Lovan and Trystan Wiedow winning 11-9 over Collin Edwards.

However, the Tigers won the fist two doubles match to win the meet. Stoll and Bergquist lost 10-4 to Gabhart an Maassen and Kraus and Richey lost 10-5 to Kramer and Plueger.

The finals doubles match with Bice and Joe Oldson versus Plueger and Edwards was suspended with Spencer leading 6-4.

“The last three in the lineup played very well tonight,” said Taylor. “Tyler played his first varsity singles match, and came out with a terrific victory in an extremely close match. And Trystan continues to play extremely well for us at No. 6.”

SL-O returns to action Monday when the team comes to Estherville.
