Brashear medals at Great Lakes Invite
OKOBOJI – Estherville Lincoln Central’s Max Brashear had a good day on Saturday as he earned runner-up medalist at the Iowa Great Lakes Invitational at Brooks Golf Course.
Brashear carded a 36 on the front nine and a 40 on the back for a 76.
Only Spencer’s Jay Monahan shot better as he finished with a 75.
However as a team, ELC finished fourth overall in the A Division. The Tigers had four golfers in the top 10 as they finished with 315.
Matt Weeks, who shot a 78, led host Spirit Lake to second place as the Indians finished with a 328. Emmetsburg finished third with a 331. LeMars shot a 351 and Okoboji finished with a 367.
Rounding out the scores for ELC were an 89 from Logan Spoo, a 91 from Cory Reeves and a 94 from Tucker Milburn.
Non-counting scores were a 96 by Adam Reiter and a 103 by Justin Harris.
For Spirit Lake, Scott Hummel finished with an 80, Corey Potter shot an 83 and Zach Skopec had an 87. Non-counting scores were an 88 from Matt Heaton and a 104 by Trevor Caldwell.
Alesch is runner-up
In the B Division, Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire’s Blaze Alesch also had a good day. He finished as runner-up medalist with an 83. However GT/RA finished fourth overall with a 418.
“It was a tough day to golf,” said GT/RA coach Brent Dyhrkopp. “Blaze turned in a good score considering the conditions.”
Harris-Lake Park won with a 366 followed by Martin County West with 385 and North Sentral Kossuth/Armstrong-Ringsted with a 408.
MCW’s Cordell Weber took medalist honors with a 76.
NSKAR’s scores were a pair of 98s from Sawyer Doocy and Cody Runksmeier while Keith Mathine and Heath Bernhard shot 106s. Non-counting scores were 120 by Shane Mills and 122 by Zack Hurlburt.
For GT/RA, Ethan Petersen shot 99, Zach Harris shot 114 and Dylan Fischer shot 122.
Next meet for the GT/RA is the Palo Alto County Meet at Graettinger on Friday.
