ELC girls run half a meet

HUMBOLDT -Mother Nature continues to play havoc with the spring sport schedule, but the Estherville Lincoln Central Girls Track Team didn’t get to run some events before the rains came Monday and halted the meet at Humboldt.

“It was pouring rain and cold and wet, but we needed to get in a meet,” said ELC coach Tina Burton. “I think everyone got at least one race in.”

Burton had official results for the day. Sadie Winter win the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 1 inch. Ashley Weston jumped 14 feet, inches in the event.

ELC’s 4×800-meter relay team of Macy Dahl, Casey Sievert, Mackenzie Woodyard and Brianna Enerson took first in 10:25.

“Macy ran a phenomenal race and attacked at the right time to help us get our place,” said Burton.

ELC’s shuttle hurdle team of Winter, Megan Karels, Kimmie Pouyhkham and Weston took second in 1:13.

In the 4×00-meter dash, Emily Kirchner took second in 1:04.29 while Sievert was a close third finishing in 1:04.39.

In the 3000-meter run, Mikenzie Bell competed for the first time in the event and finished sixth in 13:29.

The meet was called after the 4×200-meter relay.

In junior varsity action, Karels took first in the long jump with a leap of 13 feet, 6 inches.

The junior varsity shuttle hurdle team of Irlanda Cabrelas, Rachel Bates, Kristen King and Olivia Evans took first in 1:19.

ELC is scheduled to return to action Thursday at Storm Lake.
