Milburn, Schmidt qualify for Nationals

Two Iowa Lakes women’s golfers will make the trip to Daytona Beach, Fla, after qualifying for nationals at the Region XI Tournament this weekend.

Macy Milburn finished 10th overall and Meaghan Schmidt place 12th overall to make the cut.

Overall, Iowa Western won the team title with a 713 followed by Des Moines Area Community College with 737, Iowa Lakes with 779, North Iowa Area Community College with 789, Iowa Central with 819 and Ellsworth with 850

Milbrun shot a two-day total of 186 (90-96) while Schmidt shot a 190 (94-96).

Other scores for the Lakers were a 197 (99-98) by Kelsey Osburn, who finished in 16th place and Ashley Miller finished in a tie for 20th by shooting a 206 (99-107).

Non-counting score for the Lakers was Karlee Schneekloth, who finished 26th overall with a 219.

“I’m proud of the way the women battled for the two days on a rain soaked course on the first day and very windy conditions on day two,” said Iowa Lakes coach Andy Soper. “We had a lot of adversity in the three days we were down there and for them to stay focused the way they did I can’t compliment them enough on that

Schmidt and Milburn will take off for Daytona Beach, Fla on May 14 and play at the LPGA International Golf Course.
