Multiple place winners lead to second for SLP

MILFORD – While the Spirit Lake Girls Track Team had just one top finish at the Okoboji Relays on Monday, the Indians had enough other place winners to finish second overall in the team standings.

Sibley-Ocheyedan won with 130 points followed by SLP with 114.75 points. Sioux Center was third with 89 points followed by Emmetsburg with 66, Okoboji with 60, North Sentral Kossuth/Armstrong-Ringsted with 46.5, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn with 46 and South O’Brien with 33.75.

The Indians one win came in the shot put where Molly Hutchins threw 34 feet, 3 inches. Emily Mercer finished fourth with a throw of 31 feet, 11 1/2 inches.

SLP had two place winners in each of the field events as well as the 3000-meter run, the 400-meter hurdles and the 15000-meter run.

In the discus, Mercer took second with a throw of 110 feet, 7 inches while Hutchins was fourth with a throw of 91 feet, 7 inches.

In the long jump, Miranda Bruggeman placed second with a leap of 14 feet, 7 1/4 inches while Jessie Kabele was third with a leap of 14 feet, 1/12 inches.

Kendra Stokke took second in the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 8 inches while Bailey Loveall was fourth at 4 feet, 4 inches.

In the 3000-meter run, Briana Brunsvold finished second in 11 minutes, 40.74 seconds while Dondi Schmidt was third in 11:54.04.

In the 1500-meter run, Brunsvold finished third in 5:34.14 while Schmidt was fourth in 5:37.28.

In the 400-meter hurdles, Stokke finished second in 73.33 seconds while Katie Hamilton was fifth in 82.54 seconds.

The 4×800-meter relay team of Bailey Heikens, Kabele, Liz Skogerboe and Morgan Walz finished third in 11:24.74. Also third was Lindsey Arneson in the 100-meter dash in 13.47 seconds.

The shuttle hurdle relay team of Stokke, Bruggeman, Kayla Herrig and Kaela Delperdang finished fourth in 77.26 seconds. Also fourth were Loveall in the 400-meter dash in 66.93 seconds and the 4×200-meter relay team of Carter Hassel, Arneson, Stokke and Bruggeman in 1:56.80.

Skogerboe placed fifth in the 800-meter run in 2:45.68. The distance medley team of Hassle, Caitlin Eckerman, Schmidt and Heikens finished fifth in 5:00.11
