ELC runs well at Storm Lake
Coach Tina Burton mixed up her lineups and the Estherville Lincoln Central girls’ track team exceeded her expectations in placing fourth at the Tornado Relays in Storm Lake.
“We tried some different things tonight with girls running in relays they haven’t run before,” said Burton. “Most of the still placed and did well cutting their times. They also had fun.”
ELC finished with 87 points overall. Carroll won the meet with 131 points followed by Humboldt with 124, Manson Northwest Webster with 110, ELC, Storm Lake with 53, Pocahontas with 39, Newell-Fonda with 22 and Storm Lake St. Mary’s with 21.
ELC won two events on the night. Allie Sievert leaped 5 feet in the high jump. The 4×400-meter relay team of Mackenzie Woodyard, Macy Dahl, Mikenzie Bell and Irlanda Cabrales won in 4:30.
In the 400-meter dash, Emily Kirchner took second in 1:02.4 while Casey Sievert placed third in 1:03.87.
The distance medley team of Paige Guge, Melissa Gjerde, Tayler Bodle and Brianna Enerson took second in 4:58. Also second was the sprint medley relay team of Molly Wittmer, Maggie McCauley, Casey Sievert and Kirchner in 1:56.
The shuttle hurdle relay team of Sadie Winter, Megan Karels, Kimmie Pouykham and Ashley Weston placed second in 1:14.28.
The 4×200-meter relay team of Dahl, Woodyard, Enerson and Guge placed third in 1:58.
Winter placed third in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 1 1/2 inches while Karels leaped a personal best of 14 feet, 7 1/2 inches to place fourth.
Morgan Schichtl threw 34 feet, 5 inches to placed third.
Placing fourth was the 4×800-meter relay team of Alyssa Ayers, Gjerde, Bell and Ashley Stinar in 11:41.56. Also fourth was the 4×100-meter relay team of Alicia Jorgenson, Wittmer, McCauley and Guge in 55.41 seconds.
Rachel Bates placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:18.
ELC travels to Spencer tonight.
