ELC netters falter at home
With Storm Lake’s top two players not making the trip to Estherville, the Estherville Lincoln Central girls tennis team couldn’t take advantage in a 6-3 loss to the Tornadoes on Monday.
“We just didn’t play very well especially with them missing their top two players,” said ELC coach Larry Kirchner.
The coach said his No. 1 and No. 3 player both did well as they won both singles and doubles.
At the No. 1 singles, Erin Olson blanked Iwa Chanthavong, 10-0 and at the No. 3 spot, Allison Hevern won 10-4 over Cassy Hill.
However No. 2 singles player Corin Swalve has battled a foot injury and lost 10-5 to Pamela Vongdeliane. In other singles matches, Amanda Heinrichs lost 10-3 to Alyssa Sievans, Bailey Hagen lost 10-8 to Emmerly Mai and Tessa Bernholz lost 11-9 to Lanny Brown.
In doubles, Olson and Hevern won easily over Chanthavong and Hill 10-1.
However Heinrichs and Bernholtz lost 10-7 to Vongdelian and Sievans and Carol Daniels and Kaylee Schoon lost 10-2 to Mai and Brown.
ELC swept the junior varsity matches played.
In singles, Kelly Zebedee won 8-3, Emily Chrestiansen won 8-6, Emily Lair won 8-3 and Maddy Burns won 8-1. In the only JV doubles match, Zebedee and Chrestiansen won 7-5.
ELC travels to Spencer for the Lakes Conference Tournament Wednesday. The meet was postponed on Saturday. Play begins at 9:30 a.m.
