Spirit Lake Park make coach’s dream come true

STORM LAKE – If Spirit Lake Park Boys Track Coach Brad Travis is dreaming don’t wake him up.

Travis said every kid on his team set a personal record in at least one of his respective events at the Storm Lake meet on Tuesday.

“That 41 total- a coach’s dream,” he said.

Of course Spirit Lake Park won with 129 points. Kuemper Catholic was second with 89 followed by LeMars with 86, MOC-Floyd Valley with 68, Spencer with 60, Storm Lake with 51, Cherokee with 40 and Estherville Lincoln Central with 35.

The Indians won nine events on the night.

Alec Baldwin won the 400-meter dash in 50.28 seconds and the 800-meter run in 1:57.25- a school record time for the 800.

Keith Byers won the 1600-meter run in 4:36.35 and anchored the winning medley of Casey Spaeth, DJ Smith and Kayne Feldick. Their time was 3:42.95

Dalton Kelley won the discus with a throw of 147 feet, 11 inches while Luke Kabele won the 200-meter dash in 23 seconds.

Will Norris won the 3200-meter run in 9:58.13.

Kevin Martinson won the 400-meter hurdles in 56.58 seconds. He and Kabele were also part of the winning 4×400-meter relay team which included Aric Walz and Spaeth. Their time was 3:32.71.

Feldick placed second in the 400-meter dash in 50.72 seconds and Waltz was second in the 400-meter hurdles in 57.85 seconds.

DJ Smith placed third in the 110-meter high hurdles in 17.41 seconds. The shuttle hurdle relay team of Waltz, DJ Smith, Logan Lynn and Pat Woizeschke was third in 1:05.68.

Norris placed fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:06.78. The 4×800-meter relay team of Feldick, Pat Woizeschke, Paul =Woizeschke and Tanner Goetsch placed fourth in 8:38.20.

Tanner Kroon took sixth in the shot put with a throw of 44 feet, 4 inches. Pat Woizeschke was sixth in the 110-meter hurdles in 19.19 seconds. Kyle Anderson placed sixth in the 3200-meter run in 10:44.97.
