ELC hosts top Lakes teams
Hosting the three best teams in the Lakes Conference proved a big challenge for the Estherville Lincoln Central Girls Golf Team at the ELC Invite on Thursday.
Led by medalists Megan Myers and Hanna Drost, Emmetsburg came out on top with a 195.
Spirit Lake golfers had an off night for their team as they shot a 200, Spencer came in third with a 202 while ELC finished with a 224.
“Spirit Lake has been at state for the past couple of years and has a good shot to return and Emmetsburg has been also and has a great chance to return;,” said ELC coach Kevin Richardson. “Both teams could be state bound. These are the three best teams in the conference we played tonight.”
For ELC, Aryn Ward shot a 49 while Taylor Heinrichs carded a 51 as both finished in the top 10 for the night.
“I wish as a team we could have scored better; but I am proud of Aryn and Taylor for their good scores,” said Richardson. “We faltered in our other four scores to get a couple of mid 50s scores and that hurts.”
ELC’s other three golfers, Paige Hoffmeyer, Raeanna Muller and Tia Bernholtz each shot a 62. Taylor Lago had to withdraw with a back injury.
“Tia had a season low score carding a 62 she did very well for a freshmen just starting to play some varsity meets,” said Richardson.
Spirit Lake was led by Maureen Owens and Leah Hilpipre, who each shot a 48. Emily Ayres and Whitney Berkland each shot a 52 to round out the scoring. Non-counting scores were a 54 by Lindsay Hamilton and a 55 by Hannah Weidemeier.
