By Staff | May 7, 2011

CHEROKEE – The Estherville Lincoln Central Girls Tennis Team improved to 4-2 in Lakes Conference play with a 7-2 win over Cherokee on Thursday.

However, the victory came with a cost as ELC lost a second player to injury when Tessa Bernholtz rolled an ankle in her doubles match.

How serious the injury is remains to be seen.

ELC took four of the singles matches with Erin Olson winning 10-3 over Sara Reuble; Bailey Hagen won 10-6 over Shelby Bingen; Bernholtz won 10-5 over Brianna Fowler and Kaylee Schoon won 10-6 over MiKaela Booth. In other singles play, Allison Hevern lost 10-3 to Denise Freed and Amanda Heinrichs lost 10-5 to Tayler Meyerhofer.

“I’m very impressed with how Kaylee played in her singles match,” said ELC coach Larry Kirchner. “The rest of the team did a nice job too.”

ELC swept the doubles matches with Olson and Hevern winning 10-4 over Reuble and Freed. Heinrichs and Bernholtz teamed up to win 10-7 over Fowler and Booth. Hagen and Schoon won 10-8 over Meyerhofer and Luetkeman.

ELC is on the road at the Spencer Tournament today.

In junior varsity play, Cherokee only had four girls to play.

ELC took three of the four singles matches. Carol Daniels won 8-2; Kelley Zebedee lost 9-8 (7-5); Emily Chrestiansen won 8-1 and Emily Lair won 8-1.

In doubles, Maddy Burns and Amber Schacherer won 8-1.
