Heinrichs earns all-conference
SPIRIT LAKE – Senior Taylor Heinrichs shot a 97 to earn Lakes All-Conference honors and help Estherville Lincoln Central to a fourth-place finish in the conference tournament on Saturday.
Spirit Lake won the tournament by nearly 47 strokes with a 354 followed by Spencer with 401, Emmetsburg with 404, ELC with 430, Lemars with 439, Western Christian with 447, Cherokee with 469 and Storm Lake with 482.
“I was proud of the girls today finishing fourth,” said ELC coach Kevin Richardson. “We finally snuck by LeMars after losing to them 2-3 times this year by a couple of strokes.
“Congratulations for Taylor making the All-Conference team – there are a number of very good individual golfers in the conference and to finish in the top eight says a lot.”
Aryn Ward and Rachel Lausen each shot a 110 and Paige Hoffmeyer shot a 113 to complete ELC’s scoring.
“Rachel had two great rounds today and really played well,” said Richardson. “Aryn and Paige just had a couple of holes which kept them from having really good rounds. Aryn got into trouble on one hole which if she hadn’t would have saved her six to eight stroke and then she would have had a great score.”
Non-counting scores were a 131 by Taylor Lago and a 132 by Tia Bernholtz.
“Tia and Taylor Lago are doing a nice job,” said Richardson. “I know their scores are down with some of our others but Tia is just a freshmen and she is getting valuable playing experience. Until you have golfed in these situations with people watching you and following, you don’t know just how stressful that can be for a young golfer.”
ELC travels to Sheldon next Monday for the Class 2A District Golf meet.
“As a team I hope we can carry this into next Monday’s district play and just see what happens,” said Richardson.
