LeMars edges past Midgettes
he Estherville Lincoln Central Girls Tennis Team rounded out the regular season with a 6-3 loss to LeMars on Monday.
While there were a couple close matches that could’ve gone the other way, coach Larry Kirchner had his eye on the top singles match.
Erin Olson came out on top over LeMars’ Carolyn Ahlers 10-6.
The victory may help Olson when the seeding is determined for the upcoming regional meet.
With ELC having lost its No. 2 singles player, Corin Swalve, to an injury, everyone else in the lineup had to move p.
In singles play, Allison Hevern played well against Erica Westhoff, but lost 10-1. At the No. 3 singles, Amanda Heinrichs battled Stephanie Young to an 8-8 tie before losing 10-8. At the No. 4 singles, Bailey Hagen lost 10-3 to Katie Meis. At the No. 5 singles, Tessa Bernholtz also had a tough loss falling10-8 to Hannah Lang. At the No. 6 spot, Kaylee Schoon came up from the junior varsity to pull out an 11-10(7-5) win over Sofie Arens.
In doubles, Olson and Hevern lost 10-4 to Ahlers and Westhoff; Bernholtz and Heinrichs lost 10-4 to Young and Meis and Hagen and Schoon earned a 10-8 win over Lang and Arens.
