Wilson’s best day
Senior Ty Wilson jumped a career best 19 feet, 10 3/4 inches to win the event by half an inch at the Lakes Conference Meet on Monday.
While it was the Estherville Lincoln Central Boys Track Team’s only all-conference performer, Coach Dick Barrett was pleased with the effort.
“I thought we competed about as well as we could,” he said. “We scored about double the points we had last year in this meet.”
ELC finished with 61 points to place seventh overall.
Barrett said Wilson had a career-best meet, running well in three relays.
“Marcus Christensen also ran well in the relays and Andreas Blanco continues to run well too,” said Barrett. “Billy Snyder filled in nicely for Ryan Vos in the sprint relays.)
ELC’s medley relay team of Wilson, Christensen, Alex Bloomquist and Miguel Sanchez finished third in 3:46.19.
Sanchez also finished just three seconds behind Spirit Lake Park’s top runners, Alec Baldwin and Will Norris, in the 1600-meter run. Sanchez’ time was 4:46.14.
“Miguel continues to give a great effort,” said Barrett. “He passed Storm Lake’s outstanding 800 runner to nip him at the tape in the medley.”
Gable Bonner finished third in the shot put with a throw of 45 feet, 8 1/2 inches. Teammate Riley Currey threw a career-best of 45 feet, 1 inch to place fourth in the event.
ELC’s 4×100-meter relay team of Blanco, Wilson, Snyder and Christensen placed fourth with a season-best time of 46.60 seconds. The same quartet finished fifth in the 4×1200 in 1:37.92.
ELC’s 4×800-meter relay team of Tyler Swanson, Lee Bates, Tyler Shryock and Joe Clayton placed fifth in 9:12.07. Also fifth was Bloomquist in the 400-meter dash in 54.65 second.
The shuttle hurdle relay team of Spencer Diekman, Oscar Ramirez, Anthony Segura and Blake Gjerde placed sixth in 1:13.75.
Brennen Nyren placed sixth in the discus with a throw of 117 feet, 3 inches while Bonner placed seventh with a throw of 115 feet, 5 inches.
The 4×400-meter relay team of Bryce Hansen, Evan Hansen, Ramirez and Gjerde placed seventh in 3:55.62.
Diekman finished eighth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:02.90.
ELC now prepares for Thursday’s district meet in Cherokee.
