ELC netters take on LeMars in double dual

By Staff | May 11, 2011

With the weather affecting both matches against LeMars earlier this spring, the Estherville Lincoln Central boys tennis team played two meets against the Bulldogs on Monday.

Once one team won five matches, the teams stopped playing and started the next match.

“Although they handled us pretty easily, we hit the ball as well as we have all year,” said ELC coach Tony Klein. “This was a good tune-up for districts and although we’ve struggled this year, funny things happen in sports.”

In the first meet, LeMars swept ELC 5-0.

In singles play, Brad Olsen lost 10-0 to Mike Ahlers; Riley Edwards lost 10-0 to Kent Hasselquist; Joe Heinrichs lost 10-2 to Eric Havey; John Reisner lost 10-0 to Keegan Dregs and Tucker Olson lost 10-0 to Colin Brooks.

In the second dual, Levi Jensen played the lone singles match and lost 10-1 to Jacob Hanson.

In doubles, Olsen and Edwards lost 10-1 to Ahlers and Hasselquist; Heinrichs and Reisner lost 10-0 to Havey and Driggs; Olson and Jensen lost 10-1 to Brooks and Aaron Ruden; and Heinrichs and Reisner lost 10-2 to Havey and Hanson.

In the junior varsity play, LeMars won the first dual 6-0 by sweeping the singles matches.

Tim Soper lost 8-2; Taylor Fernholz lost 8-0, Noel Mendoza lost 8-2; Thomas Bortvit lost 8-2; Brandon Sharar lost 8-0 and Payton Jaquith lost 8-0.

LeMars won the second meet 6-0. In ingles, Soper lost 8-0, Fernholtz lost 8-0 and Jaquith lost 8-3.

In doubles, Soper and Mendoza lost 8-2; Fernholz and Bortvit lost 8-0 and Sharar and Jaquith lost 8-0.
