Sanchez wins 1600 to qualify for state meet
CHEROKEE – After getting tripped up at the start of the 1600 and rolling on the track a couple times, Estherville Lincoln Central’s Miguel Sanchez got up, dusted himself off and won the race after a restart.
Sanchez was close to his season-best time in the cooler conditions Monday as he ran teh race in 4 minutes, 40.6 seconds. His best time of the season is 4:38.44.
With an hour and a half lightning delay, only a few results were available at press time.
The 4×800-meter relay team of Tyler Swanson, Lee Bates, Tyler Shryock and Joe Clayton finished fifth in 9:06.
Senior Marcus Christensen jumped a career-best 20 feet, 3 1/4 inches, but that was only good enough for fifth place.
Senior Riley Curry threw a career best 45 feet, 8 inches inches in the shot put to place sixth.
