Baldwin heads SLP state contingent
ORANGE CITY – The Spirit Lake Park Boys Track Team racked up six first-place finishes to earn an automatic trip to the Class 3A State Track Meet.
Senior Alec Baldwin had a hand in four of them.
The senior won the 800-meter run in 1 minute 59.48 seconds and the 1600-meter run in 4:33.44.
He also ran the third leg of the winning 4×800-meter relay team which include Will Norris, Kayne Feldick and Keith Byers. Their winning time was 8:10.09.
Baldwin anchored the winning medley relay team of Luke Kabele, Mychal Sheridan and Feldick with their time of 3:38.04.
Kevin Martinson won the 400-meter hurdles in 56.68 seconds and also the lead leg of the winning 4×400-meter relay team. Joining him in running that race in 3:32.99 were Aric Waltz, Kabele and Feldick.
The Indians had two second-place finishes which also qualified for state. Waltz ran the 400-meter hurdles in 57.06 seconds and Byers ran the 1600-meter run in 4:38.31.
Kabele finished third in the 200-meter dash in 23.30 seconds while Byers placed third in the 800-meter run in 2:03.30 Also third was Dalton Kelley in the discus with a throw of 153 feet, 2 inches. All three will make the trip to state.
Placing fourth was the shuttle hurdle relay team in 1:01.99.
DJ Smith placed sixth in the 100-meter high hurdles in 18.05 seconds while Pat Woizeschke placed seventh in 18.11 seconds.
Casey Spaeth placed seventh in the 400-meter dash in 55.69 seconds. Kyle Anderson placed seventh in the 3200-meter run in 11:00.24 while Paul Woizeschke placed eighth in 11:03.06.
The 4×200-meter relay team of Andrew Broocks, Mychal Sheridan, Smith and Cody Poock placed eighth in 1:38.53. The same quartet finished eighth in the 4x100meter relay in 47.24 seconds.
