ELC girls qualify six events
The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union listed the tentative state qualifiers for all classes shortly before 9 p.m. Friday.
Estherville Lincoln Central Coach Tina Burton was very excited to discover who made the list.
Emily Kirchner had earned a berth automatically after winning the 400-meter dash on Thursday at the Class 2A Regional Meet in Cherokee.
Teammate Casey Sievert, who finished second in the event, also ran fast enough to make the list.
While ELC’s 4×800-meter relay team finished second to Western Christian at the district meet, their second-place time of 10:01.07 was the fourth fastest time in Class 2A as listed on the IGHSAU website. That quartet includes Macy Dahl, Brianna Enerson, Sievert and Mackenzie Woodyard.
The shuttle hurdle relay team also made this state list. The quartet of Sadie Winter, Megan Karels, Irlanda Cabrales and Ashley Weston’s qualifying time is 1:10.48.
While Allie Sievert has leaped 5 feet this year, her jump of 4 feet, 10 inches on Thursday was good enough to proper her to the state meet also.
Morgan Schichtl’s throw of 34 feet, 4 inches in the shot put, was also good enough to make the qualifying list.
ELC finished fourth overall at the district meet with 81 points. Western Christian won with 110.5 followed by Sibley-Ocheyedan with 102 and Ridge View with 101.
Unreported results from Cherokee include a third-place finish by the sprint medley team of Alicia Jorgenson, Maggie McCauley, Casey Sievert and Kirchner in 1:58.70. The 4×200-meter relay of Paige Guge, Molly Wittmer, McCauley and Jorgenson finished eighth in 1:57.81. The same foursome finished fifth in the 4×100-meer dash in 56.30 seconds.
