Hantelman headed to state in high jump, 400

ARMSTRONG – Only Travis Hantelman had earned himself of a trip to state following the Class 1A District Meet in Armstrong on Thursday.

The North Sentral Kossuth/Armstrong-Ringsted senior won both the high jump and the 400-meter dash to qualify in those events.

He leaped 6 feet, 2 inches in the high jump. He won the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.94 seconds in the preliminaries and 51.90 in the finals.

NSKAR’s third place district finishes in the 4×100-meter relay or distance medley weren’t good enough for state competition.

The Class 1A District Meet in Manson-Northwest Webster was suspended due to a thunderstorm Thursday, so Class 1A state qualifiers weren’t posted until late Friday evening.

Hantelman was a part of both third-place finishes. He anchored the 4×100-meter relay team which includes Jacob Braddock, Tyler Feddersen and Spencer Clausen. They finished the event in 46.88 seconds.

The distance medley team of Feddersen, Clausen, Hantelman and Jake Adams clocked in at 3:48.42.

NSKAR finished sixth overall with 70 points.

Bishop Garrigan won the meet with 101 points followed by Clay Central-Everly with 93, Emmetsburg with 84, West Hancock with 83, North Iowa with 82, NSKAR with 70, Laurens-Marathon with 65, West Bend-Mallard/Twin River Valley with 46, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn with 36, Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire with 19 and Corwith-Wesley-Luverne with eight.

Also for NSKAR, Feddersen placed fourth in the 100-meter dash in 12.13 seconds.

The 4×800-meter relay team of Brian Becker, Matt Adams, Evan Hagebock and Jake Adams placed fourth in 8:59.20.

Also fourth was the shuttle hurdle relay team of Dylan Moore, Nick Larsen, Aric Runge and Austin Bierstedt which clocked in at 1:07.09.

Dylan Moore placed fifth in the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.60 seconds while Austin Bierstedt placed sixth in 17.02 seconds.

Zach Johnson placed sixth in the 3200-meer run in 11:43.43. Also sixth was the 4×200-meter relay team of Jacob Braddock, Zach Ditsworth, Jacob Clark and Brett Deitering in 1:46.32.

The 4×400-meter relay team of Christopher Burt, Jerry Clark, Chris Christensen and Jacob Clark placed seventh in 4:05.96.

Brian Becker placed eighth in the 1600-meer run in 5:24.01.
