A disappointing day

SHELDON – It wasn’t the way the Estherville Lincoln Central Girls Golf Team wanted to finish the 2011 season.

Although the Midgettes finished tied for third at the Class 2A District Meet in Sheldon on Monday, ELC didn’t score its best.

Sioux Center won the meet with a 389 while Okoboji shot a 400. Those two teams will advance to next week’s regional meet.

ELC shot a 456 and tied with host Sheldon for third place.

“We had some high expectations going into the district meet today,” said ELC coach Kevin Richardson. “We hoped to challenge for one of the top to spots to advance but just had an off day top to bottom. We did finish in a tie for third even though we really didn’t play well.

“The Sheldon course is not a long one and giving a good day you can score well. However, there is river which runs through it and a couple of misplayed shots and you will be looking at double digit scoring on holes.”

As she has most of the season, Taylor Heinrichs led ELC with a 106.

“It was a disappointing day for Taylor; the way she had been playing lately we had expectations of her making in the top five scores which would have let her advance to regionals,” said Richardson. “She has been the core to our team the past four years and will be missed.”

Aryn Ward was just a stroke behind Heinrichs with a 107 while Taylor Lago shot a 117 and Rachel Lausen shot a 126 to round out ELC’s scoring.

Non-counting scores were a 130 by Paige Hoffmeyer and a 138 by Tia Bernholtz.
