Indians shoot lowest score

CARROLL – The Spirit Lake Girls Golf Team is looking to return to the state meet one more time after winning the Class 3A District Meet on Monday.

The Indians shot what coach Bob Kirchner believes is their lowest team score for 18 holes, a 351.

Carroll finished second with 378. Both teams will advance to the regional meet at Storm Lake next Monday.

Rounding out the team scores were Algona with a 391, Humboldt with a 413, Perry with a 438, Webster City with a 441 and JSCP with a 502.

Spirit Lake’s Maureen Owens took medalist honors with an 81. Katelyn Prignitz of Nevada also shot an 81.

Other individual qualifiers were Sarah Pettitt of Carroll with an 84, Shelby Townsend of Perry with an 86 and Spirit Lake’s Emily Ayres with an 86.

Kirchner said the 86 is a personal low score for 18 holes for Ayres. Also shooting a personal-best for 18 holes was Whitney Berkland with a 91. Leah Hilpipre completed Spirit Lake’s scoring with a 93.

Amanda Williams finished with a 102 while Hannah Weideman shot a 103 for non-counting scores.
