Stokke, Hutchins conclude careers

DES MOINES – Spirit Lake Park senior Kendra Stokke ran her best race in the 400-meter hurdles to conclude her high school track and field career on Friday.

Competing in the Class 3A State Meet, Stokke finished the race in 1 minute. 9.59 seconds to place 14th overall. Her previous best time was 1:09.91.

To have earned a medal, Stokke needed to finish under 1:08.47. Holly Salzbrenner of Mount Vernon/Lisbon won the Class 3A 400-meter hurdles by nearly three seconds over the second-place runner with her time of 1:03.08.

SLP senior Molly Hutchins also competed Friday in the Class 3A discus.

Hutchins struggled to equal her best throws as she finished 24th with a throw of 33 feet, 2 3/4 inches.

The Spirit Lake Park girls team has two representatives in the 1500-meter run, Briana Brunsvold and Dondi Schmidt. The race is scheduled to start at 2:35 p.m.
