Indians win Lakes title

CHEROKEE – The Spirit Lake boys cross country team may not have had the individual champ this season, but the Indians won another Lakes Conference title on Tuesday.
The Indians finished with 52 points well ahead of second-place Western Christian’s 84 points.
Spirit Lake was led by three all-conference performers. Senior Tanner Goetsch placed third in 16:42.33, freshman Ryan Maris placed fifth in 17:40.87 and senior Kyle Anderson placed 11th in 17:54.33. Also counting toward the team score, Alec Harrington placed 10th in 18:09.72 and Josh Waite placed 17th in 18:13.86.
Also running for the Indians., Jason Feather placed 21st in 18:35.06 and Kyle Kueper placed 35th in 19:56.51.
Schmidt wins Lakes meet
CHEROKEE – Spirit Lake senior Dondi Schmidt won her first cross country race at the right time as she crossed the finish line first at the Lakes Conference Meet on Tuesday in Cherokee.
Schmidt’s time of 15 minutes, 46.17 seconds was about 10 seconds faster than Spencer senior Cierra Guerrero.
Two of Schmidt’s teammates also earned all-conference honors as the Indians placed third overall with 72 points.
Freshman Lucy O’Hagan finished seventh in 16:56.72 while fellow freshman Hazkhett Zeledon placed 14th in 17:07.64.
Also for Spirit Lake, Ally Whiting placed 24th in 17:45.24 and Ashley Brooks placed 26th in 17:49.68 to complete the team scoring.
Rebekah Olson placed 27th in 17:59.08 and Meghan Wickham placed 42nd in 19:11.38.
