Second half surge

After letting the Briar Cliff Junior Varsity hang around for the first half, sixth-ranked Iowa Lakes used a 21-3 run to start the second half in cruising to a 92-63 victory on Monday.

The visiting Chargers kept the game close in the half by hitting from three-point range.

Briar Cliff’s Chris Schmidt banked in a 3-pointer just inside the half-court line at the buzzer as the visitors trailed just 35-31 at the break.

Justin Sloter capped the Laker run with two 3-pointers. The run also included 3-pointers from Deondre Parks and Tate Harmon with contributions from Diamontae McKinley and Latrell Love. The run occurred over a 6 1/2 minute stretch.

Two minutes later, with the Lakers leading 53-40, Iowa Lakes coach Troy Larson pulled four of his starters for the night for the last 11:24.

Briar Cliff never threatened in part to Emmanuel Golong, who scored 16 of his game-high 19 points over those 11 minutes.

Parks finished the game with 15 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Love had 14 points on 69-of9 shooting from the field along with three blocked shots.

Sloter had 11 points while Brandon Boggs had seven, Colten Neff and Harmon each had six points, Parker Bailey and McKinley each had five and Vasileios Makris had four.

Iowa Lakes (6-3 overall) is home against ABCD Prep today.
